PIM - Powder Injection Molding
Powder injection molding (PIM) is a powder metallurgy process
used for manufacturing metal parts. PIM process can provide
a substantial cost savings over conventional metal machining
options. PIM parts are used in wide variety of applications,
including medical, automotive, aerospace, defense, electronics,
and IT devices.
There are Metal Injection Molding (MIM) and Ceramic Injection Molding
(CIM) technology avaialble for powder injection molding.
PIM Advantages
Complex Geometries
MIM can produce more complex parts than either investment casting or
traditional press and sinter techniques.
Outstanding Property
Density levels are very high between 97.5% to 99.5%. The tensile strengths,
elongation and hardness are superior to traditional press and sinter
techniques, and comparable to investment casting or machined parts.
Tight Tolerance
+/- 0.025mm in length
Cost Saving
PIM process can save cost over certain large quantity in addition to
elimination of machining process, or other secondary operation.
V-LINE Two-Stage Plunger System
The V-LINE system provides the same benefits to PIM process as thermoplastic
molding. In PIM process, it is difficult to control quality till inspecting
final sintered parts. The V-LINE system offers much higher yield compared to
the conventional system.
The V-LINE system has much superior shot size repeatability.
The V-LINE system has an optimized design to reduce wear of screw and barrel
components.
Sodick Plustech offers a special package for "PIM" to provide better
performance on PIM process.
